raku day course
join us for an exciting, fiery raku day course set in the peaceful kentish countryside at lovebird studios. this one-day experience offers the chance to explore the dramatic art of raku firing – a japanese pottery technique known for its unpredictable beauty, vivid metallic finishes, and striking crackle glazes.
course overview
- time: 10:00am – 4:00pm (includes a 1-hour lunch break)
- lunch: included (light lunch and refreshments provided)
- ages: 18 and over
over the course of the day, you’ll learn the origins and process of traditional raku firing, how to apply raku glazes and prepare your bisque-fired pieces, how to safely handle hot ware and reduction materials, and post-firing techniques such as smoking and polishing to achieve striking surface effects.
